It's that time of year. My very favourite time of year, for so many reasons.
When I was a kid, I used to feel things hard and was so sensitive to emotion. I still very much am now (the pisces in me) but now better equipped to deal with the sometimes over rush of deep emotion.
I used to feel so deeply toward any event or occasion when I was a little. Almost like it got right under my skin but in the best way possible.
Growing up in a very open household Christmas was always a big deal which has stuck with me. Ask me what I love most about christmas and the answer is.. EVERYTHING.
For some, as soon as December comes around it's countdown. Which is so exciting if you have kids but I have really tried to learn to enjoy each part of the 'lead up'.
There's just something so special about Christmas.
It's a feeling, a smell, an experience and a slice of magic all in one.
That pure excitement on Christmas eve when there are just hours away from waking up to smiling faces, a delicious roast dinner and what seems like an unlimited supply of quality streets. A time where everyone makes an effort. Where christmas songs play for a month, overindulging is essential and no amount of glitter or awful christmas jumpers are too much. It brings pure joy and a sense of togetherness.
Christmas reminds me to make the most of every occasion that we get given, because why not? To make the effort and go that extra mile for the people you care about.
It makes my heart smile seeing lights, trees, decorations and reminds me people care.
That in a world full of so much hurt, pain and destruction, there is still so much love, joy and compassion.
As well as a very loud high end energy that Christmas brings, it can also bring a more quiet energy. We can get caught up in the external elements of Christmas - which don't get me wrong I love, but it can also be an opportunity to go inward and reflect.
Becoming thankful for all that you have and a chance to start planning your path ahead.
A time also to remember and honour our loved ones. To realise that not everyone has the same relationship with Christmas. It can be a bitter sweet experience for some.
But never will we forget it's core values.
Christmas brings magic.
The same magic that is in life itself, that is among and within us all fabulous human beings.
Next time you are feeling really Christmassy just stop, take it all in.
Enjoy the feeling.
We should all be more like Christmas really shouldn't we?
Wishing you love & light,
.. and a very Merry Christmas!
